The main fishing center of the country is home to major companies in the industry, using large vessels and complex equipment. It is 530 km long and with beautiful beaches. The state is the largest fishing producer in Brazil, with 180 thousand tons of fish landing in fishing ports, which represents 60% of national production.
Sardine is one of the most consumed fish in Brazil and boosting the fishing economy in Santa Caterina. Both representing 80% of national production disembarks in Santa Catarina ports. This reality has caused one of the largest canning companies in the world to establish itself in Itajaí. Generating 2.2 thousand direct jobs today, Gomes da Costa produces 1.5 million sardine cans per day, becoming the largest in the sector in Latin America.
